How to make a confidential deck safe to share

Blurring a logo is not anonymising a deck. Where client data hides in a PowerPoint file, and how to replace all of it so a deck can go into a portfolio, a pitch or a training set.

How to make a confidential deck safe to share

To make a confidential deck safe to share, every client name, logo and number has to be replaced everywhere the file stores them: on the slides, in the speaker notes, inside the chart data and in the file's own properties. Covering a logo with a grey box handles one of those four.

Why people need this

  • An agency or consultant wants to show last year's work to a new client.
  • A team wants to share a deck as an internal example or a template.
  • Someone wants a second opinion on a deck from a person outside the company.
  • A company wants to use real decks to test a tool, without real data.

Where the data hides

  • Speaker notes, which keep the full story behind every slide.
  • Chart data. Delete the label on the slide and the number is still in the chart's spreadsheet, one right-click away.
  • Hidden slides and slides off the end of the deck.
  • File properties: author, company, title and comments.
  • Images with names in them: screenshots, photos of documents, logos inside diagrams.

Why find-and-replace is not enough

Replacing "Acme" with "Client" fixes the slides that say Acme. It misses the logo, the chart data, the product names, the people, and every number that would identify the deal to someone who knows the market. Numbers are the hard part: change one and the chart next to it stops making sense, change them at random and the story falls apart.

How wetria Sanitize does it

Names become fictional, logos come out, every number changes, in the slides, the notes, the charts, the chart data and the file's own properties. Figures are scaled consistently, so a chart still reads in the same order and a total still adds up. You can add a line, for example "Replace people's names too. Keep the years and dates. Put a grey LOGO placeholder where a logo was." The median deck takes about 4 minutes.

A sector deck slide after Sanitize: fictional names, logos removed, layout intact
The redesigned version of the same slide, sanitized with the same plan so both sides match

Every client deck shown on the wetria page went through Sanitize first, with one plan applied to the original and the result, so a figure changed on the left changes the same way on the right.

Check it before it leaves

  • Search the file for the client's name, product names and people's surnames.
  • Open two charts' data sheets.
  • Read the speaker notes of the three most sensitive slides.
  • Open File, Info, Properties and check the author and company fields.

And decide first whether the deck should go into any AI tool at all. Our view is in what business materials should not be uploaded to AI tools and design confidentiality in the age of AI tools.

Frequently asked questions

How do I anonymise a PowerPoint presentation?

Replace names, logos and numbers on the slides, in the speaker notes, in every chart's data sheet and in the file properties, and remove hidden slides. wetria's Sanitize does all of these in one pass.

Does Sanitize keep the charts readable?

Yes. Figures are scaled consistently, so bars keep their order and totals still add up.

Can I keep dates and years?

Yes. Add a line to the brief, for example keep the years and dates, and they stay as they are.

What happens to the original file?

Like every task, its files are deleted 30 days after it finishes, and it is never used to train a model.
