Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot now edit decks inside PowerPoint. What changes for business presentations

Between late 2025 and autumn 2026, every major AI assistant learned to work on slides: Claude and ChatGPT got PowerPoint add-ins, Copilot's agent mode became generally available, and presentation tools plugged into all of them. Making a slide is no longer the hard part. Deciding what the deck should say, and making it right on your company's template, still is.

What shipped, in order

  • September 2025: Claude can create and edit PowerPoint decks, spreadsheets and documents directly in Claude.ai and the desktop app.
  • January 2026: Gamma launches a connector that creates gammas from Claude conversations; a ChatGPT app follows in March.
  • February 2026: Claude becomes available as an add-in for PowerPoint. Anthropic says it inherits heading styles and slide masters and can generate native charts.
  • April 2026: Microsoft makes Copilot's agentic capabilities in Word, Excel and PowerPoint generally available, including updating existing decks within company templates.
  • May 2026: a ChatGPT add-in for PowerPoint enters beta, able to create and edit slides, as reported by Engadget.
  • June and July 2026: Copilot can restyle an existing deck using another presentation as a reference, and brand kits roll out.
  • September 2026: Claude gives presentations their own starting point in artifacts, on every plan.
  • October 2026: Gamma's connectors can edit existing gammas, and Plus AI launches an MCP for Claude and ChatGPT that restyles old decks in a custom template.

What this changes

  • The first draft is free. Anyone can get a passable deck from notes in minutes, so a passable deck no longer impresses anyone.
  • The assistant is the new entry point. People ask Claude or ChatGPT first, and the tools that plug into them get used.
  • Templates matter more, not less. Assistants that read slide masters reward companies with a good master and expose the ones without.

What it does not change

  • Someone still has to decide what the deck argues and what to leave out. An assistant can rewrite a slide; it does not know which slide loses the room.
  • Consistency across 30 slides still needs a check. A prompt-by-prompt edit fixes the slide in front of you and can break the one after it.
  • Confidential decks still need a policy. Each assistant and tool has its own rules on training and retention.

Our conclusion

We expect two kinds of presentation work to remain valuable. The first is judgement: the argument, the structure and the one slide that carries the meeting. That is what the studio does, as we argue in why presentation design still wins business. The second is reliable finishing: a whole deck rebuilt on the company master, checked slide by slide, editable in whatever app the team uses. That is why we built wetria. The middle, a generic deck from a prompt, is now a commodity.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude edit PowerPoint presentations?

Yes. Claude can create and edit decks in Claude.ai and, since February 2026, works as a PowerPoint add-in that uses the deck's slide masters.

Can ChatGPT edit PowerPoint?

A ChatGPT add-in for PowerPoint entered beta in May 2026, according to Engadget, and can create and edit slides.

Does Copilot use my company template?

Yes, through Brand Kits built from .pptx or .potx files, available to enterprise users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence.

Do I still need a presentation designer?

For the argument and structure of a deck that has to move a decision, yes. For repeatable rebuilding and formatting, tools now do most of the work.
